hi there! my name is Matias, but everyone calls me Mati instead. this is my personal blog where I post just about anything. it doesn't really have a defined theme.
things I like
I like a variety of things, but I generally only like one thing at a time, because my drive towards my special interests is so strong that I can get nerd-sniped on the specificities of one single thing for a whole year.
languages, linguistics, conlangs. these have been my constant passion ever since I found out about Esperanto when I was 13.
in particular, about a year ago I got really into Lojban; now I would say I'm one of the dozen or so people who can speak it conversationally. I help moderate la roljbogu'e, the Lojban Discord: if you're interested in learning the language, you should join it!
I've also been learning Japanese for seven years already. the only reason I started was to challenge myself, and I think the “hardest language in the world” claims were highly exaggerated, even if I wouldn't consider myself to be fluent.
vocaloid music! I got into it after I started learning Japanese back in 2019, and I think it's the only kind of music I listen to regularly anymore.
Japanese mahjong. for a time this was the precision focus of the autistic worm that controls my brain, but nowadays it's just a thing I play online sometimes.
em dashes — my writing has way too many parentheticals for me to be able to say anything without them. also, «angle quotes».
generally irrelevant details
I'm twenty. I was born on March 26th, 2006, which is a very symmetrical-looking date if you don't know what symmetry is: 2006-3-26.
I was born and live in Brazil.
this blog is called the oddism spectrum because I used to pronounce the word ‘autism’ like ‘oddism’. once someone remarked on that and thought it was funny, so I just embraced it as part of my brand. I am — as you'd imagine — autistic, if you couldn't tell already.
linguistics is like, my whole thing now (and it has been since I was 13), but I actually used to be a math kid before I got into this stuff.
my personality starts making way more sense when you know that I read the xkcd guy's book What If? multiple times when I was about nine years old.
have you seen them?
the small one is named Nino and the big one is Maninha.
now you have :)
